Hi. It can happen in a Bose-Einstein condensate. They have slowed photons down to only a few feet per second.

Sorry, you're off. Time actually strikes on the comparable fee, incredibly. What I recommend is that in case you have been with the clock that became transferring close to mild speed(if it actually moved at mild speed it may convert to uncooked skill and be misplaced.. as a clock) it may look as though purely 10 seconds had surpassed ( you are able to purely age 10 seconds ), yet on earth your twin could age plenty greater. it incredibly is truly stressful to hold close the "why" of this, yet whilst the best talkin monkey that ever lived believed it(Einstein) we small brainers are purely gonna could desire to settle for it. the unusual section is that in case you went for a experience at close to mild speed for say a 300 and sixty 5 days, the human race could in all danger wreck itself on your absence( it may be like a pair thousand years later or so....).each and every person you already know could have perished of previous age, in spite of if we controlled to stay alive as a race.

My opinion? I like it.

Common knowledge that the speed of light varies.

The speed you commonly hear is 186,000 miles/second or 3.0 x 10^10 cm/sec *in a vacuum*.

Gravity or density of liquid slows it down.

so, then no one is CHANGING the speed of light. it is still the same constant speed in a vacuum.

it does change (slow down) depending on the substance that it is traversing. it is cool to think that the fastest moving object in the universe can be slowed to a few ft/sec though.

When light travels through empty space or air, its speed is 3*10^8 m/s. If you make the light pass through water
(refractive index =1.33) or glass (refractive index=1.5) etc,, the speed of light is reduced by the factor which is refractive index.

Light slows down when travelling through glass or water or anything else with atoms in it.

What are you talking about. While were at it lets just change the value of pi to 3.0 to make things easier.
