We all know that china will rise in power, and it seems that they want some attention for what they do and they want to flex their muscles to the world and America, why dosent america do something about this situation before its too late? correct me if i am wrong , was it not the USA talking about STAR WAR this , STAR WAR that since Reagan's days? What China did with its satellite was a issue of waste disposal , not military provocation . To carry on and on about america should not allow china to do this and to do that sound extremely dictatorial , doesn't sound USA believe in democracy.

Great question. In short , it's already too late.

China has the US in the bag and there's very little the current political stock in Washington do to even acknowledge that. Mr. Strong USA, President Bush, will waffle and make a few strong sounding statements, rest assured the administration will do nothing.

The military has already (back in the 80's) realized that low Earth orbiting satelites are a primary 1st strike target in almost any conflict with a larger Great Power state (US, UK, France, Germany, India, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and of course Russia) not to mention some states I've probably forgotten all have had such a capability for quite some time. It's very likely that Iran, Saudi Arabia, and a host of other nations could pose intermittent threats to orbiting satellites as the satellites crossed into their airspace. If we are attacked or going to be attacked by some other nation, the first thing to be attacked will be our satellites.

Secondly, China is or is becoming the US's largest trading partner, while currently the relations between our two countries is quite cordial, it's not at all a stretch to suggest that the US is no longer quite in the driver seat in the relationship since China currently holds a significant portion of the external US debt, which we happily and joyfully let our politicians increase every time we get a "tax-cut" we're screwing ourselves ever so gently.

The US currently does not bring in as much money as it spends, simple we borrow - our kids or their kids or someone else will pay for what we do today. The problem is this. While we happily live beyond our means China and other interested parties are happily gobbling up our Bonds and CD's and what have you.

Someday, China will do "something we REALLY don't like" , and then some minor sub-minister of chickens in Shanghai will tell someone like the President that it would just be best for everyone if "insert something we REALLY don't like" here was just accepted and we moved along nicely.

To say "who cares" , is to doom the US , if China or some other interested parties called the debts to account right away , the US would have to default, (not pay), and the dollar would become worthless within a few days or weeks. The US as a superpower would be over if not permanently than for an uncomfortably long time.

There are of course sunshiners - people who say nothing like this could ever happen - (tell that to Argentina, Mexico or Thailand) a more frightening and perhaps pertinent example might be Weimar Germany (Germany was down and out after WW I but the currency crisis after the war did nothing good for Germany it too Adolph Hitler and "his kind of leadership to lead Germany out of poverty", and we all know what happened there.

It's so elegant it's undeniably beatiful, not a shot fired not a threat made, and we've been doing it to other countries for 60 years, the concept is 3000 years old and as everyone now knows about America's current leadership. Foreign policy is rather unforutnately.....not their strong suit.

There is a catch, should our economy significantly contract for some reason, that would send economic shockwaves across the globe, so whatever it is would have to be serious (Think annexing Taiwan or a military conflict with Japan or Korea). On the flip side, if the US did something like invade Iran , it's not inconceivable that (since this has been expressed as unacceptable by both China and Russia), it's possible we could provoke a crisis by the actions our current administration is presently saber-rattling about.

SO the next time a politician says "tax-cut" just remember who's keeping score and taking the IOU on that "tax-cut".

Well, china could wipe out America in a flash, who needs that? They have not that good weapons, but many people willing to kill. I think USA has to listen to China, how will the world look like when a communist country dominate the world arena? Probably better if you ask me.

China is one of the worlds biggest supplier right now. plus it is one of our Asian allies and if we don't keep up with china we are going to face serious troubles like ex.North Korea if china doesn't help us north Korea will be the one of the biggest threat to America and don't forget that china is one of the countries that has designated bombs against America. china is also ahead of technology etc.and it has nuclear weapons. and to be honest we cant go to war with china either b/c they got the biggest army in the world.

anyone who says china is a superpower is truly a jackass. do some reading you pessimistic retards. look at ALL the factors surrounding it. hell, by 2040, 450 million of the chinese will be over 60 years old because of their birth restrictions. thats 40 percent of their population that will be unable to work or serve in the military. that is ridiculous. their military is eons behind us. and they definitely wont catch up to us with 1/14th of our budget. please everyone, do some reading. numbers dont equal power unless you're an ant colony.

It's not like they've taken aggressive action against us or threatened us in any way.

They blew up one of their own satellites in a test. Sure it may be a warning to the US to not spy on them, but it doesn't seem that aggressive. They've been using laser weapons to blind our satellites for years now, it's not like we're able to effectively spy on their country anyway, and they can't spy on us either.

it seems like a natural response too, given the US's very stupid "Space belongs to us and not you" policy they came out with last year:

"Under a space policy authorized by President Bush in August, the United States asserts a right to "freedom of action in space" and says it will "deter others from either impeding those rights or developing capabilities intended to do so."

The policy includes the right to "deny, if necessary, adversaries the use of space capabilities hostile to U.S. national interests." "

Well, to be honest, China is too powerful for that and the people running the USA are not stupid enough to do such a thing.

War and conflict are expensive.

US probably violated chinese air space.

Umm I hate to be the one to break it to you but the U.S has been involved in trying to show the world their might by testing the 'star war's system and shooting down missles in flight. We've already done tests along with the Russians during the 90's on shooting down satellites and missed. Obviously it hasn't dawned on you that showing our aggression in this world hasn't worked since WWII. And, that we should stop repeating this insane pattern and try something else, like real diplomacy. Something this administration knows nothing about.

What's there to be aggressive about?
Clinton and his gang sold them everything they needed to make it so--and China gave him a lot of cash for his endless campaigning.

edit--sheesh do a Google search about Clinton selling technology to China and how much money he got donated into his campaign fund--you'll only get about a bazillion hits on this well known subject.
