Its the best city i've ever been to, and i signed up to go to chicago for mini courses for a reason =]
I love it at night, when the whole citys lit up and youre up in your hotel room looking at all of it.
Sure, ive been to Paris, San Fran, Hollywood/LA London, Cancun, New York, but theres nothing like Chicago, the way its so close to the lake, I can go there for the weekends from my hide-out in WI, I don't know where it comes from, but its more like a home away from home.
There isnt crime like all the other big cities and everything is in a nice price range, they have a barneys, and quite a few other good places.

Firstly, never litsen to people like triteandean. He is arrogan of urban spaces. New York City is the cultural capital of the country, and San Francisco is rememniscent of a Euro-City, but Chicago is simply Chicago. Of course there are its problems, but they are hardly unprescedented urban problems. Again, what was said about Chicago by the aformentioned member up at the top - was - totally wrong. Chicago has a wealth of varying cultural institutions and neighborhoods: (including the Devon (Little Calcutta) corridor, Chinatown (it's good, even though San Fran's is best), Bronzeville, Downtown, Pilsen (home of only modern Mexican Museum), Argyle Street (cambodian, vietnamese, and loatian neighborhood), etc, etc, etc. Chicago is on the GaWC's list of the 10 ALPHA WORLD CITIES, while San Francisco is not. Chicago has approximately 3,000,000 people in the city center, and it used to be larger than that. Good Transportation systems, and educational facilities.

I think Chicago is the best city. It isn't too crowded like New York, but it has it's traffic. The different climates is fantastic. You get to see the weather changes, and what happens in the different seasons. Also, the diversity is great. Everyone is open minded and there are so many things to do there. I love Chicago! If I had enough money, I would move there permanently.

I live here and love it. But it all depends on whom you are asking. Are you asking someone that as visited Chicago, or live there?
As far as living in the suburbs of Chicago, I love it. Going downtown is easy to get to and there are lots of different things to do and see, yes, some are expensive, but some are also free. The museums for instance, have their free days. The magnificent mile is really nice to walk through and go window shopping, especially at the holidays.
Chicago is diverse and so many other cities are as well, Been to New York, and I thought it was over crowded, Chicago has many different transportation options and you can get anywhere easily.
Crime, of course we have it, don't every state? But all in all, Chicago, Downtown is a nice place. Just have to watch your self as you would anywhere else.
But for having a good time....we have lots of clubs and theaters and activities to do.

Chicago is a friendlier town---and it does have culture. There is theater, dining, shopping, clubs, festivals...etc. The different neighborhoods have their own distinct style. Greektown, Bucktown, Lincoln Park...etc. Many neighborhoods will have a strong ethnic group in the area...and you can find many different grocers and stuff that will cater to that. Such as polish, ukraniun, italians, greek...etc. Many movies are filmed here. There's the lake and the lake front with is beautiful. There are many musuems, navy pier, millenium park, historical society, botanical gardens, free zoo. All sports are played in the city of Chicago. The town is alive at night. There's traffic, but it isn't horrible in my opinion---and I commuted to and from the loop for many years. And crime isn't any worse than any other big city. Dining is the best I have ever encountered. There is something for everyone.
I lived in Chicago...and moved away to South Florida for about 4 yrs and moved back. Granted seafood and Florida go together...but FL makes HORRIBLE pizza. Why? Cause FL is filled with east coast/NY folks. They must love that crappy soggy pizza. I am also 100% Italian--believe me, it isn't pizza. It was sad, I had to call my mom and learn how to make my own pizza. We even had some of our favorite pizza fed-exed in. Oh--and for some reason, traffic, crime and accidents in South FL were horrible. We moved back to Chicago for a number of reasons--many listed above. Chicago has a lot of job opportunities, pay is better. and cost of living between South FL and Chicago were the same at that time. And the midwest values were greatly missed and very lacking in South FL. I miss FL weather, but not the hurricanes. Chicago winters are cold. But, in the summer--there are TONS of summer festivals like Jazzfest, Bluesfest....and neighborhood festivals. There is something going on EVERY weekend somewhere in the city. I can go on and on....Chicago is just the best kind of town.

Chicago is a World Class City that has something for everyone. It has great sport teams, excellent tourist attractions, and high skyscrapers. Chicago is my favorite city in the world and I hope to relocate there one day in the future.

I love the city at Christmas time. It's really beautiful, and the shopping is great. And in the summer time it's a blast. Biking, blading or walking along the lake front trail is always a good time. Navy Pier is exciting too. Love the ferris wheel lit up at night. Makes me feel like a kid again! And the choices of bars to go bar hopping is nice too!

MAGNIFICENT city....only been once, and wish I coulda stayed a month. Went through the Shedd Aquarium, had cold beer and red hots at the Cubby Bear (love that Vienna Beef), ate some of the best Italian sausage dogs and Italian beef sandiches I've ever had in my life...picnicked right next to the lake...wonderful. Went to Second City one night, and a jazz club another...have GOT to come see a game at Wrigley one day.
Only drawback is that it just has two seasons...winter and the Fourth of July.

Big city in the middle of nowhere. Lousy weather. Surprising lack of culture and sophistication for a city that size. There are two great cities in America: New York and San Francisco. The rest are just a whole lot of nothing.
