Why is it that if I call someone a fat, ugly so and so the police would probably ignore it but if I called someone a black so and so I'd definitely get hauled in.
Whether someone is black, white ,fat, ugly, small, tall or whatever an insult is an insult and should surely receive equal treatment.

nousnous7.
The point I am making is that all people should be treated equally under the law. As you appear to disagree with my point doesn't that make you the racist here?

I've thought about this myself and am unhappy about this aspect of the law. Racism is racism and cannot logically be a one way system.

In these violent, lawless days it seems that anyone can invite an attack simply by being in the wrong place at the wrong time; this applies to everyone, regardless of the colour of their skin. By definition, all crimes of violence are hate crimes and so I think it would be less divisive and cause less resentment if all crimes of violence were simply categorised as hate crimes. There are plenty of psychos out there of all colours and races.

You need to learn some history mate! Discrimation laws in this country apply to certain groups of people that have been systematically oppressed and marginalised from mainstream society (with all it's benefits). This occurs at an institutionlised level(education healthcare, housing, employment etc) at a cultural level (media etc) and a interpersonal level and effects people's access to personal and political power and advantage. Not only have certain groups in society been historically disadvantaged they have also been actively oppressed and attacked. This is why for example racism is taken so seriously.

That is a great question. I suppose you would consider "hate crimes" worse, but is it okay to hate fat people? Painting a swastika on temple would get you in bigger trouble than painting Homer Simpson on a dognut shop. The laws in this country are certainly numerous and sometimes illogical, but all we can do is vote.

Cursing sumonr because of their colour of skin is very degrading and bad, it gives a bad name to people of whom are the same race as the person who is a racist,. it shows them people are weak, ignorant , uneducated so therefore if sumone makes a remark of racist nature people tend to get angry, not just police but human nature people react angrily and shameful, most people dont like them kind of people who are racist and makes them sick that someon can curse sumone cuz the colour of their skin.

Alas, you bring up a good point. Sadly people are not kind to others. Kindness and tolerance must come from within each of us, not from laws unequally enforced.

Racial epithets can lead to violence that can explode into a race riot. Police are very edgy about that.
