Without knowing which exact engine you have in your Nissan Sentra it's hard to determine. Since you talk about your compressor I could guess that you have an SR20DE engine, which has nissan routing the belt to the alternator and the compressor.
For that engine, you can get a belt that by passes the compressor completely and simply hook up the alternator to the crank shaft.
The other engines listed for the Nissan Sentra seem to route the water pump and the alternator together (and not the A/C).
I would try getting a belt that allows you to connect the crank shaft and alternator without connecting up the A/C Compressor. If it breaks again, then it's the alternator itself that is seizing up and causing the belt to shread. If that were the case then the alternator is the part you want to replace.
The A/C Compressor works with a electrical clutch. It's possible when the clutch is engaged that the compressor locks up. It's possible you have an electrical sensor malfunction that is causing the electric clutch to engage from time to time. Also if you use the defrost (which turns on the A/C Compressor) setting of your controls causing the problem your seeing.

If the belt is only for the alternator then the alternator is probably seizing up. When an accessory like the alternator seizes up either the belt will snap, slip on the pulley and burn, or stall the engine. Take the belt off the alternator and spin the pulley by hand or a wrench. It should spin fairly freely with some resistance from the magnets in the alternator. If it feels rough or will not turn then it needs to be replaced.

i own a repair shop and its possible it might be locking up,this will cause it to burn belts up like that even if your not using the air it can still lock up on it,,you may have to get the compressor replaced on it before it stops doing this,i have had to replace them before because of this happening,,at least have a professional mechanic look at it,and get his opinion on it,,it may also be a bad pulley causing this to happen,,good luck with it ,i hope this help,s.
