I'm in the mood to read. I get pretty easily bored if the book isn't interesting. I like contemporary, non-romantic, touching stories. Has anyone read a book that sounds like this, and would suggest I read it?

I just finished reading the book "Solomon's Mines" by Haggard... its very different from your average book, its an adventure novel, not boring either, i didn't want to put it down..... also very unpredictable.

I know this is not exactly what you are asking for, but I am reading a mystery right now that's very good. It's called "The Husband" Dean Koontz.
Contemporary, non-romantic huh? TransAmerica, was great, as was One True Thing and The Deep End of the Ocean.
But I'm a mystery fan.

I swear on my life, these three books you must must must read:
The Power of One -Bryce Courtenay
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time -Mark Haddon
I Know This Much is True -Wally Lamb
The last one sounds and looks like a sad sap kinda thing, it's also a member of Oprah's book club (which I try to stay away from) but I promise you, it's an outstanding book, one of the best I've ever read.

Definitely "The Revelation of John: A Spiritual Novel" or a small novel called "Angel Unaware". Both are quick, inspiring reads. :-)
