In reality 4, Alien Vs. Predator was just a combo of the two franchaises. But there were 4 alien films.

Technically four. The original Alien, released in 1979, then Aliens, released 1986, Alien 3 released in 1992, and Alien Resurrection, released in 1997. Unless you want to count Alien vs. Predator, released in 2004. That would make five. There is also another Alien vs. Predator movie, called AVP2, being released sometime in 2007.
