if you have a 3-cup container and a 5-cup containe, how can you measure exactly 1 cup?

Fill the 3, pour it in to the 5. Refill the 3. Fill up the 5, what is left in the 3 is 1.

Pour the 3 into the 5. Then refill the 3 and pour again into the 5. Only 2 cups can fit, so you will have one cup left in the 3.

fill the 5 up then pour it into the 3 cup slipt in half what is left in the 5 cup.

5-3=2
2/2=1
