I dont know why whenever I see a scary dream, I always have a thought that this is a dream... and infact I am sleeping while I am thinking this.. It may sound hilarious but thats how it goes for me...
But in the dream I do get scared but when I wake up I thank God that it was really a dream...

I wake up tense from a bad dream. Or from a dream where I see someone I haven't in a while, I miss them the next day.
Personally, I don't think it's fair.

Yes, I have such realistic dreams all the time. Some that scare the crap out of me! I remember one dream from a few years ago where I was in bed sleeping alone since my spouse was out of town, and there was someone like a burglar/intruder standing next to the bed looking for me - I huddled under the covers and pretended not to be there. I woke up so freaked out!! I was afraid to get up and look for someone, but I couldn't go back to sleep unless I did. Freaky!

When I have a dream where someone in my family has been hurt, a bad situation or a loved one passes away it affects my whole day because no matter how much I tell myself it's just a dream I can't help but think , 'What If?'
But good dreams don't leave me feeling happy all day? why is that?

Yes. Fortunately most dreams that I wake from are benign.
I was at a zoo and spent way too much time looking at all the snakes. That night I dreamed that there were snakes all around me and screamed out loud to wake myself. Another time, a man was strangling me and I woke screaming, as well. ( I hadn't been reading or watching anything about stranglers.)
Both times, it took a great deal of effort to actually scream.

Definitely, when you have a bad dream or nightmare, that will reflect your daily life. However, what goes around, comes around. You may be affected from your daily life and therefore you have a bad dream.
So, you should try to avoid remembered bad dreams or you will have problems in day time and night time

sometimes....there are also things called night terrors and they are dreams well nightmares that are so realistic and terrifying that people have a hard time distinguishing if it was a dream or not. sometimes you even have trouble waking up from these and it is quite a scary ordeal.
