Jeans for years. Everything else after 6 months I give them away to a few teen age girls who parents do not make a lot of money. Fashion always comes back around so if you really love something hang on to it.

I probably average 8 or 9 years. I'm terrible! Some items are 15 years old if they are in good condition and have sentimental value! I have a small bag of items [I keep in the attic] I wore in the early 80's. Usually a bleach, coffee, or grape juice stain is the only reason i get rid of an item. The clothes I buy or bought for me are conservative, so don't really go out of fashion (OK... they we're never entirely "in fashion" to begin with)

I usually keep my clothes for about a full school year and by the beginning of the next school year i get a whole new wardrobe. But sometimes if i really like a certain shirt, or sweater i keep it, also i usually keep pants for over a year unless they get to small for me. My clothes RARELY get worn out. Sometimes i give stuff away if i'm tired of them. And i sometimes give clothes away if they are out of fashion.

this cant be a right or wrong answer...or can it? According to Stacy and Clinton from What Not To Wear. it is! Some people think you should at least ADD to your wardrobe every 6months.. i like to think of Semi-annual sales.(January is a great month to shop, lots of sales) i would agree with this one. I would only throw out what you will never fit again.. the size 3 jeans from high school might be on the list.. and stuff that makes you look like a bum on the street. like thinning huge t shirts that have a smiley face on them .. that sort of thing... (i never throw anything in the garbage unless it has holes in it,and nobody else could wear them either) i usually take things to GoodWill or the DI or Savers..wherever your local donations would go. Then i go and buy stuff that fits.. and i always stray from things that would go out of style quickly.. most things go in and out so fast i never knew they were in at all. To this day i still have never bought a pair of Capris. I never liked them .. i would always get something you know looks good on you. TRY IT ON! You'll never know unless you do... and going back on when to get rid of something I have to tell you i have more than once gottten rid of an article of clothing and 6months later or less its back in style ! a little better than before though however; if someone has told you to get rid of it ... its probably time to ponder that... if more than one person has told you to get rid of it dont ask questions ..just get rid of it!When shopping for things .. try to get things that can alternate with other things for example; a blouse that goes with jeans and a jacket ,and the skirt you can wear to church. I love things that go with everything.. i accessorize!

I pretty much dress the same i did 20 yrs ago but a bit more comfortable,I now wear relaxed fit jeans instead of the real tight 501s I see no sense in having to keep up with fashion I say wear what you choose and like for you.

It depends on the clothing and I buy classic clothing styles not trendy. Trendy clothes are tossed out after a year. Fashion dictates when I get rid of my clothes

Really I keep my clothes until they don't fit me. By that time they are out of style. And I pass them on to younger relatives. My clothes never gotten worn out. So it when they are either high waters, too short, or too tight. ♥

this may kind sort of shallow, but it usually works best to look around at what others are wearing, and decide in that way. also, you don't need to throw away something after it goes out of style, cuz chances are, it'll be back in style in no time. but usually, i get tired of clothes after about a month or two, and thats when they're out of style. but usually it works best to just buy something timeless, that will never ever be "out"
