hi there, is there anybody out there who can give me references for a couple who is trying to get on their feet? My wife is eight months pregnant, and I'm an older man w/ a heart condition. The shelters here from what we can tell aren't too safe... any ideas or advice? No rude comments please, we just want to get on our feet before the baby is born next month.

The homeless shelter should have already gotten you in contact with low income housing. Talk to your case worker, they know what houses/apartments are available and how you can come up with any extra money you might need.
I assume you're already in the system but if not, then you need to contact Department Of Human Services.
Heart condition or not, you need to be figuring out some way to support your child. Millions of other people do it and you can do it too. It's one thing to ask for help when you're so far down you can't do anything about it but once you get some government help, help yourself and get a job.

First of all, congrats on your new baby. and second, Do you guys have any family that can help you out until you get back on your feet? cause being homeless isn't good when you have a new baby coming, i mean it's not good anyway, but you need to find a good family member or friend to stay with if at all possible, if not, try calling the Sal. Army they might be able to help. and DON"T LET ANYONE TRY TO TAKE AWAY YOUR BABY JUST BECAUSE YOU DON"T HAVE A HOME, JUST HANG IN THERE, THINGS WILL GET BETTER, AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Do you have your wife on Medicaid and WIC because that can help the both of you out allot with a baby on the way. Because you don't want to fall to far behind on the baby's check-ups.
Since you have a way to get on line try going to those job web sites and see what you can find there.
And most of all don't think it's a bad thing to go asking family for some help because my husband and I where going through the same thing and we found that family can help you get through your hard times when you least expect it

Homeless with a computer and internet? Hmm... ok. Anyway, I don't know how it is where you are at, but here we have low income housing, HUD, welfare, and things like that... and it seems to be only the ones that can work, but won't work, that are able to get it, so good luck to you!

what state do you live in? I am pretty sure that there are different resources out here that can help. Have you tried explaining your situation to her ob/gyn doctor, or even asked help from the social worker where she is giving birth at? Maybe even call the American Red Cross. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
