if anything, you could become part of the chorus to fake the singing part but get to act.

I honestly would I have to hear you sing to answer this completely. I don't mean to be negative, but just because you love to act doesn't mean that you'll get a part. If you are trying out for professional, then most likely the answer is no. If you are going for community or school, it depends on a number of things. Some directors *groan* only pick favorites. Others look for those who have had the experience (aka seniority) that they are looking for. I think that it honestly will depend on the theatre and the directors, but you might as well try out. A person is never the best judge of themselves, and you may very well be able to sing enough to get a decent part. If not, you may get an ensemble part, and those can be a lot of fun too.

Let me tell you a story about myself. Like you I love acting but singing isn't exactly my strong point. However I decided to audition for a musical anyway. Unfortunately I had to sing in the audition which made me nervous which made me sound worse. Not surprisingly I got a chorus role. However I wasn't going to give up that easily. So I tried to be the best dam chorus member I could be and kept helping out with the production and kept filling in for people who couldn't make it that day which got me noticed. Then one day one of the cast members dropped out and because I had helped out so much the director gave me the role. The best thing was thatt that role didn't have much singing, it was mainly acting!
So if you want to audition, go for it!

Not for a good part. In musicals, the main part of all auditions is singing. In fact, the last musical I was in didn't even look at acting, just singing and dancing.

I think the musical might be hard if you are not comfortable with your singing voice. Don't be discouraged from trying out, though, becuase you could find that you have the look and acting skills that they are looking for and they can train you to sing better. If you absolutely can't sing, you might just stick with non-musical plays.

I say go for it.
My older brother had never done any kind of musical/acting in his life, and then during his Junior year in high school, some of his friends dared him to try out for the school musical, Guys and Dolls.
He isn't the worlds greatest singer, but he has a personallity that goes miles. He sang "I've Been Workin on the Railroad" for his audition, and he got the lead role of Nathan Detroit.
With confidence and strong willpower, you can make this happen.
Because of him, I tried out for my school musical this year (I'm a junior now) and I got a lead in Damn Yankees!
Give it a whirl, and good luck!!!
Let me know how you do.

I'm going to be perfectly honest with you, hun. If you can't sing very well, you probably won't get a large part. You'll most likely get a small role in the chorus. Still, dream big. Maybe you're a better singer than you believe that you are.

I dont think you would have much chance if you were trying out for a real production where you are getting paid, but if it is community theater or a musical at school then you have a very good shot, because most people who audition for those arent that good but they take almost everyone

yes- maybe not as good as some one who can belt Mozart's aria but still really good! remember whether you are singing or acting, you are telling a story- TELL THE STORY! if you speak the words to the melody and tell a story, you'll have a great shot!

Honestly, if criteria clearly states that acting and singing is required, for sake of embarrassment I would not audition.
