I am an Indonesian and Indonesian journalist already investigated since July 2006 that Barack Obama (formerly known as Barry Soetoro) attended Franciscus Assisi Elementary School, a catholic institution, and Percobaan Elementary school.

The second is not an Islamic school. He was being truthful in stating that he studied in Muslim since Indonesia’s population is overwhelmingly Moslem. It’s like any school in Italy (where I am now) is predominantly, at least nominally, Catholic. And if you do serious research in Indonesia’s education, you will find that even Thomas Friedman was surprised by the cosmopolitan nature of the Islamic schools when he visited Indonesia.

His step father, Lolo Soentoro, was working in the military at the time when the Indonesian government was hostile to Islamic movement. There is no way Lolo Soentoro could stay in the Army if he is a radical Moslem. Since the step-father was Moslem and Indonesia, it is a common practice for the school to simply assign the same nationality and religion to the child.

Who cares? It's not Islam that's the problem. It's the extremists. Besides, fundamentalist Muslims are very far and few. The U.S. tends to exagerrate, and the media only exacerbates the fear-mongering. I mean, look at Somalia. Most of the leaders were moderate, but the American government has nonetheless gotten themselves involved. If Ethiopians stay too long, it could lead to an insurgency; the appeal to radical Muslims would only be strengthened by American involvement that would be seen as imperialism. I want to know what Obama plans to do about Iraq, healthcare, global warming, etc. I couldn't give two sh*ts about his religion.
