Probably because of the bridge between Auckland and Sydney. Also the local maori tribe in Sydney, the Ngati Manly, have started a claim for their rightful lands. I commute daily between the two by swimming, so have a good insight to it. From the Auckland Skytower we look into the Melbourne Criket Ground for free views!

Cos Yahoo is stupid!! New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean comprising two large islands (the North Island and the South Island) and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands. In MÄori, New Zealand is also known as Aotearoa, which is usually translated into English as the Land of the Long White Cloud. Now Australia is a Country but also a Continent and also the worlds largest Island. So want to know anything else dont ask Yahoo ask me. Cheers.

The Australian Constitution allows New Zealand to become part of Australia as another State. No referendum is necessary in Australia to do this but one is necessary in New Zealand. As soon as the Kiwis want to join us, they can. They'll start winning cricket matches if they do.
As far as Yahoo Answers is concerned, Australia and New Zealand are often considered together as a holiday destination for overseas travellers so linking them is fine.

it's not listed as 1 country, it's listed as 1 continent, like Europe and Asia are continents, Australia and new zealand are apart of the Australasia continent

Same reason 'Europe' is listed as one 'country'. It's just a lot easier to link similar and close countries. If they listed each country individually the menu would be too long.
