I play both Piano and Guitar. I started off on the piano and I am more then proud to say that is where I began. It will probably be easier to start with the piano. The piano is the base to most all instruments. From the piano you could and can go on to any number of instruments.

However, you must have dedication regardless of what instrument you choose to start with. Practice, practice, practice.

The reason why I would start with the piano side from it being the universal start to music. The piano has the best visual of what you are doing. You play the Middle C note and from there you can go anywhere. Composition on a piano is much easier to do then on the guitar. So all around it is a versatile and wonderful instrument. Now days I prefer the guitar. But the best place to start in my opinion is the piano.

You will be able to have a visual starting point and you will be able to go from there. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and I believe people are different as well. So you never know what may work best until your try something.

If you try the piano and lose the drive there but you start with the guitar and find the drive there. I'd say follow your heart. Just speaking from a technical point of view. I would say the piano.

Good Luck!

For me, piano is much easier because I can actually see what my hands are doing. Guitar was difficult because I was constantly craning my neck to look for the strings. Eventually, you'll get good enough that you don't need to do that but in the beginning, it's hard. As far as how long it takes, that really depends on the individual. Some people learn more quickly than others.

I think guitar is much easier. How long to learn? Well - that depends how good you want to be. Masters of these instruments are still learning.

You should be able to play a simple song on either of these instruments in a couple of weeks if you practice for 30 minutes every day.

As a piano student, piano is pretty difficult to learn. I've been playing for about 9 years and I'm finally to the point where I can play whatever I want. I've heard of students who've reached that point quicker, but it takes a good solid 5 years for the average person to learn enough piano to play pretty much whatever they want.

I've heard guitar is easier, since it just deals with chords. But the bonus of learning piano is that you can pretty much play any other insturment after learning it.

Guitar is easier. It could take you at least just 1 year to learn the basics if you are dedicated. I did.

Always start with piano. You can step into just about anything after you learn the piano. Ask any professional. It's the best way to start out playing ANY instrument.

If you are looking for what's easier, then you're not going to be dedicated Grasshopper.

If you are truly dedicated, pick any instrument that you like the best.

Good luck! :*
