It is absolutely possible to give birth to twins naturally! Of course, the ease of the delivery is largely determined by the babies' positioning in the uterus; if both are head down, then you're good to go. If one or both are breech, it would certainly be more tricky - and most doctors will highly recommend a Cesarean in that scenario.
If a natural delivery is important to you, you might want to consider seeking a nearby midwife. She wouldn't nearly have to deliver your baby; many will come to the hospital to assist, and most are well versed in the more natural aspects of childbirth. She would most likely be able to suggest ways of positioning your body in the weeks prior to delivery to encourage the babies to turn to a head down position, and could also suggest relaxation techniques during delivery.
I can't say for a fact that delivering twins does or does not hurt more, as I've never done it. I can tell you, though, that by the time your baby's head crowns (the first baby's, in your case), the whole area goes pretty numb. I would assume that it would stay that way through the delivery of the second baby, as twins tend to be delivered fairly close together.
Best of luck to you!

It is possible to give birth to twins naturally. I would not think it would be too much more painful though because the only thing different about labor is that you push twice. The biggest problems with natural birth for twins is the risk of breech birth of one twin and the risk of the cord(s) being wrapped around one of the twins neck. But these things can be closely monitored with todays medical technology. I also watched "In the Womb: Multiples" and it really is quite remarkable what a womans body can do.

My 15 year old twin nieces were born naturally. The first was born fairly easily then my sister-in-law's labor slowed down so much that they threatened a c-section so she found the energy to push harder. My sister has 3 year old twins, one was natural the other by c-section. They were very premature and by the time they got to the hospital one just slipped out but because of how early they were they took the second by c-section to lessen the trauma.
Women have been having multiples for a very long time without having c-sections. But it's nice to know that that option is there if there are complications.

Hello there.
I have not made a study of twin birth in particular but it seems to me that it must follow certain rules of common sense.
Most of the time doctors choose to deliver twins by Cesarean section. There must be a very good reason for this. I know that having two babies vaginally puts them at risk, there is more trauma and greter possibility for compications involving their position in the womb.
It would stand to reason that there would be more contractions necessary to give birth to two babies and more of everything in general (pain as well).
I do know from experience that with a cesarean it is not going to matter how many babies are born, it will not hurt more!
All of my 4 births were by cesarean section and it was wonderful. The only pain I had was the very minor pain of the local that they gave me to numb my back for the epidural. I never felt anything after that until well after my babies were born. The sensation returns very gradually and as soon as you start to feel uncomfortable at all they will give you morphine or what ever you and your doctor have decided on. Just stay ahead of the pain and you will be just fine.
I loved having my babies by C-section, all I missed were the contractions. I got to see my babies born, my husband was right there with me, they let me nurse my babies in the delivery room...it was wonderful. C-sections did not interfer one bit with breastfeeding and I was up walking around the same day. I really recovered quickly and it was wonderful.
Knowing that it is safer for the babies, even if only minimally so makes it all worth while for me and frankly when I looked at my babies heads I was rather glad that they were born just the way they were! lol....
Take care and good luck. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Blessings

It is possible, yes. If I remember correctly, 50% of twin births are vaginal, and the other 50% are by Cesarean.
I'm not sure if it hurts more, though. You might try a pregnancy message board that has a page on multiples.

i gave start for the 1st time thoroughly organic and the discomfort replace into terrible notwithstanding if it made time circulate by lots speedier. i propose you a minimum of attempt to circulate organic as much as you could cope with. interior the tip it is not significant how undesirable it harm, not even a minute after the toddler comes out you will ignore how undesirable it harm and all you're interest would be on the toddler. i'm unsure how many times twin births circulate without c-area. everybody i know that has had twins had them by c-area. yet so a techniques as your question is going i say decide for it! its an journey that's properly unquestionably worth the discomfort!!!

Yes, it's definitely possible to have twins naturally. As far as pain, it's not more intense, it's just giving birth twice.

I don't know if it hurts more, but I saw the documentary "Multiples: In the Womb" on The National Geographic Channel on Sunday. There was a mom on there that had twins naturally.

It is possible if they are either both head down or one breech and the other one head down. It is not possible {or would be too dangerous} if they are in possitions other then those I mentioned. It hurts like giving birth to one child, just twice. But if you get an epidural, no pain at all.

it is possible, but you run the risk of having one of the twins being born breech, since getting one baby to turn can be hard enough, but getting both those little bundles to want to go face down can be hard. But that is just a look into the future since they will both have a mind of their own. Best of luck.
