Crude oil converted to gasoline, deisel, jet fuel etc gives the most energy for the dollar. Plus .. oil has no other use except to be used. Other forms of energy conversion like wind or solar do not produce enough useful energy for the money. They are too inefficient. Therefore oil is not only important to the US .. it is important to the world. Also, there is no evidence to prove there is a finite supply of oil. In fact, nature may be still producing oil.

It fuels our economy. Most all store merchandise is delivered by truck. All groceries are delivered by truck. Look at the roads during morning or afternoon rush hour, we are a mobile society, very few are able to walk to work. Let alone the need for fuel in many industrial processes. If the terrorists get control of the oil flow, they will blackmail us and have the ability to cripple our economy.

the develop western world are oil base economy's,if there was no oil a collapse of your live style would occur, putting you back to the horse and cart,that the main reason that their has been no progress in transport tech for the last 100 years.

it is the fossil fuel that America runs on. 90% of the power plants east of Mississippi run on oil.
trucks runs on oil, some trains still run on oil.

primarily our infrastructure runs using oil. we should try to change it slowly to something else, but Bush is taking a hard line approach to finding oil instead of finding alternate roots

because oil companies have interveined in the research and development of higher mileage vehicles, and/ or alternative energies, to keep their profits/power high. It's time for imaginative companies to sidestep them, and start really making advances in alternative types of energy and transportation.

well it is important so we can use oil to fuel boats cars trucks ,tractor trailors,trains and other moving things that people drive so we can ship things out of the u.s
