I know this an often quoted question, but what did it mean? What is it that we might have forgotten? Also, could someone explain to me why the Red Indians did not understand the legal ownership of land?

"Remember The Alamo"

February 23rd, 1836

American settlers of the Mexican Province of Texas, refusing to submit to the harsh and unfair treatment by General Santa Anna, the Mexican military dictator, declared themselves a free and independent Republic. In retaliation, General Santa Anna and an army of 2000 men surrounded and trapped fewer than 200 hundred Texans in the Alamo.

The sentinel posted at the peak of the Church of San Fernando within the walls of the Alamo walls reported seeing columns of Mexican cavalry and foot soldiers preparing to attack. Santa Anna's artillery bombardment signaled a warning of the impending attack.

Alone in his quarters, knowing that reinforcements could not reach them in time, Colonel William B. Travis, Commandant of the Alamo, nevertheless composed his farewell message, an urgent plea for reinforcements and supplies, one of the most historic documents in the annals of American History:

To the People of Texas & all Americans in the world, Fellow Citizens & Compatriots,

I am besieged by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna. I have sustained a continual bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise the garrison is to be put to the sword if the fort is taken. I have answered the demand with cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender nor retreat.

Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, and of everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid with all dispatch. The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country.

Victory or Death,

William Barret Travis
Lieutenant Colonel, Commandant

To the last man, they died, and the call went out "Remember the Alamo!".

March 6th 1836 Santa Anna attacked the Alamo and took the lives of all the defenders. After this defeat along with the defeat at Goliad the Texians used the cry of " Remember The Alamo " and " Remember Goliad " as a rallying cry to defeat the Mexican Army at San Jancinto. at this battle many Mexican Soldiers were calling out to the Texicans " me no Alamo " or " me no Goliad " in hopes their lives would be spared.

To the Indians of the Plains, there was no concept of private ownership of lands. Private ownership of land stems from European Whites who invaded Indian's collective lands.

The fact that a group of men where wiped out trying to defend their liberties against the Mexican Army. The term itself, I think, is antiquated in many respects.

One must remember the whites were the minority in Texas. From the point of view of Mexico, this was part of Mexico, and whites were an invading their land.

so R u a rarity & agree with Mugabe's land grab?
it was after all African land.
throwing off white farmers & returning the land 2 Africans.

what didn't mr fork-tongue white man descended from immigrants, not understand about Native American LAND?
they were their first, descended from Russians, most probably & settled in North America, long b4 Mr Immigrant turned up & put stakes on the land.
they brought land, worked the land that was once Native American.
pre-owned.
finders keepers.
then white man turned 2 wanting 2 tame the west & adopt a country calling it the USA.
the native american ( & canadian ) indians r slowly having land returned.
including alcatraz.
used-up & wasted, but at least they've got it back.

"Remember the Alamo" was a rallying call used by United States citizens who settled in Texas, then a Mexican territory. The Mexican army slaughtered the US rebels at the Alamo. This act was then used to inspire others US settlers to fight the Mexican Army and ultimately to take Texas, which they did.

It was the last stand for Texas. Red indians didn't have conventional laws. Why would they understand legality?

Yes I remember the Alamo, it was the first and last time that America rushed in at the start of a fight, and stayed despite being outnumbered. Its also one of the few wars they were allowed to finished by the politicians.

In every other conflict, they have rushed in after the majority of the fighting has happened (1) or when they are certain of having overwhelming odds in their favour. (2) and run away before the body bags get too many (3).

WWI (1) joined in 1917, three years after start, but only in any numbers in 1918. Stopped Britain by ganging up with France, thus prevented from marching in on Germany, (3) and declared uneasy peace, which led to rematch.

WWII (1) sat on fence again forced in by Japanese. Finished war, but Roosevelt shipped Churchill at Odessa by doing a deal with Stalin, thus allowing Communism to grip half of Europe for 50 years.

Korea (2) then Russia joined in, and they retreated (3) and did a peace deal that left a mad man in control of North. Years of lunatics in North threaten world peace.

Suez (2) built up a huge force, then (3) sat in the sea and let England and France take all the action, whilst they gave military aid to Jewish refugees, which caused Invasion of Palestine. Area still under Israeli occupation and region seriously destabilised.

Vietnam (1) let the French do the majority of hard fighting then (2) tried to take out Viet Con with heavy dose of Armour. Actually was at the point of victory when (3) politicians pulled plug. Huge mess, Cambodia and Laos collapsed as well as Vietnam.

Ist Gulf War, (Kuwait) 2, built up huge army with allies before rushing in, stopped 3) by politicians.

Afghanistan, Waited until Russia had failed (1) gave arms to Taliban, then went in when others agreed to help.

Gulf war part 2, (2) only went in when got help from UK,

Do you think that they will pull out?
