1. Check whether your speakers are ON and it is not muted.
2. Go to Control panel, double click "System" icon. From the pop-up window select hardware tab. Now click the "device manager" button. It will display all your devices, check any sound devices showing "Yellow" color question mark. If yes, right click on it and click troublshoot button. If it shows device working normal. you are done. If not uninstall driver and again install it. Hope this will solve your problem.

If you have a on-board sound-card try connecting the speakers to that the go to the control panel and select Sounds and Audio Devices Navigate to the Audio tab.
Make sure the device selected is the sound-card and then check Use only default devices then try again.
If it's a add on sound-card got o the website and download the latest drivers.
In both cases make sure any modem install has the correct drivers you can find this info in Device Manager.

If you have on board sound,and you installed a sound card on your own,you would have had to disable the onboard drivers for your sound card to work.When you formatted,by default,Windows would have activated the on board also.Just disable your on board drivers through your BIOS and that should work.

If checking the speaker volume doesn't work, go to your device manager and see if there are any red X's or yellow !'s on your sound card.

check you have pluged into the green one that is sound out
check you have power to your speakers.
open control panal / sounds and audio devices
check to see if mute is ticked (untick it )click on advanced in that area check others are not muted ( done )
right click my computer / properties / hardware / device manager
check for any "(?)" with yellow or green background, if there is under sound ,video, game controlers, reinstall your sound and video drivers that came with you pc
