She sounds like a moron...what grounds does she possibly have for a lawsuit?
My veterinarian is a lesbian...I wonder if my cats can sue.....she did de-ball them.

You ask a very interesting question here. It wouldn't bother me the least bit but I do have some straight girl-friends who would probably react the same way your friend did. I agree with a lot of the answers here, if it's a comfort issue with your friend she should find another doctor.
The comfort issue does raise another question though, why is your friend so uncomfortable? And why would the majority of the answerers here be comfortable? Perhaps it's because the majority of us are ourselves either gay, lesbian or bisexual. I would be very interested to find out how the straight world would answer this question, if the answers would be more varied or if they would be the same as ours. I may have to make a few phone calls this weekend. :-)
Edit:
I talked to one of my girlfriends yesterday about your question and she brought up an interesting point to my attention. As a lot of people have stated on here, having a lesbian gynocologist is basically the same as having a male gynocologist, but when dealing with a male gyno there is a rule in place that states that a female nurse has to be present in the room while he is working. Perhaps your friend is wanting to sue not because of the fact that her doctor is a lesbian, but because she feels that the same rule should apply for lesbian gynos. This might not be such a bad idea. This would give everyone the level of comfort and security that they are looking for when it comes to matters of our sexual and reproductive organs. This would mean though that all doctors would have to come out to their employers about their sexuality (which would be a no no as far as employment goes). My suggestion would be to not ask questions but to require that all gynos have a nurse present in the room, that way, no matter what, everyone is covered. Just my two cents on the issue. :-)

Its exactly the same thing as having a male gyno. Why should she sue for assuming that he doctor is in love with her, and even talkes pleasure in inspecting her? I have a friend who is a homophobe, and she would have done the same thing. if she doesnt feel comfortable, then she should just find another doctor instead of insulting this one, and assuming that the doctor is in love with her.

Your friend needs help. She needs to realize that when the doctor is in the office, she likely sees the vagina medically, not sexually, and probably does not let her personal life, and/or her orientation interfere with her job. Besides, you can't sue someone for being a lesbian.

The Dr usually doesn't question your own sexual preference unless it related to a health issue. It shouldn't matter WHAT the Dr does in his or her own time and long as they are ethical in the office setting and treat the patient well. A lawsuit because of her being a lesbian?? Ridiculous

Hell no! I am so much more comfortable talking to a woman Dr than a man about most things, and to find out she was a lesbian is, well, like a win win situation.

Why would it even matter? As long as the doctor was professional with her then it shouldn't matter what her sexual orientation is. Wouldn't it be like having a man as a gyno? If she's that uncomfortable with it just tell her to find a new doctor.

Completely and totally over reacting!!! Sue?! For what? On what grounds? Tell her to find another doctor if she's uncomfortable.

I agree with you she's taking it too far. What does her life choice in partners have to do with her career? My gyne is a woman if I found out she was a lesbian I don't think it would effect my thoughts on how she was doing her job and maintaining her professionalism. If she were a lesbian it wouldn't matter to me because I don't choose my gyne by her sex partners or her sexual preference I chose her because she's a damn good DR. Why did your friend choose her's?Remind her of that...

I don't understand on what grounds she thinks she's going to sue for... I don't know anything about my Doctor's personal life... But he's a good Doctor, so why does it matter? I definitely think she's completely overreacting.
