First, ban all television and radio ads for candidates, then cap how much can be spent on campaigns to a reasonable amount to equal the playing field. This way independent candidates have the same exposure as candidates from the Big Two. This would also cause people to really examine who each candidate is, and what their policies are, and not make a decision based on who their daddy is, or on a bunch of 20 second commercials.
Then do away with the Electoral College and make the election what it should be....a popular vote.

Contact the Libertarian party and join up with them. Then try to convince them that this is serious business and not just a hobby. The might have a chance if people will pay attention.

you could eliminate it and just have people run on their own ideas How scary! You could use a series of votes to get the overall number of candidates down to a doable number, then have your main vote. Can you imagine if politicians would do whats best for the nation and the people rather than what's best for their party?

Have a third party that has a popular platform, is well organized, and well funded. Use the internet and feet pounding the pavement to get the message out. Ask public figures to join your cause. Ask important organizations to join your cause. Rinse and repeat.
