I need someone to explain to me how to move my itunes songs from my computer to my external hard drive. And then how to remove the songs from my computer. I thought i had moved the library to the external hard drive b/c it said, 'itunes library'. so then i went to my Finder and deleted the 'itunes folder'. then when i went back to my hard drive, there were no songs when i tried to open the itunes library, it just opened itunes. (thankfully i backed up on cd!) anyway. what am i doing wrong??? how do i get the songs to the hard drive, and off my computer, without losing my music? where did i go wrong?

The iTunes folder only has some information on the music files, where they are, how they are arranged, your ratings, the play lists you made, ... etc
but the music are in their original folder , where you saved them before inserting them into iTunes, just copy all of them along with the iTunes folder, and you will be ok ..

the itunes library file is just the list of the files in your library. you need to actually move the music files. search for .mp3 files or whatever extension the files are in windows explorer. then hit ctrl+a then ctrl+c, go to your external drive and press ctrl+v. this might take a while depending on how many songs are on your computer. once this process ends go back to the search window and delete the files by pressing delete on you keyboard. say yes in the box that comes up. this remove the files from your internal hard drive. i would make sure you can play them from your external drive before you delete the files however.

My iTunes has been deleted from my laptop two times in the previous and as quickly as I downloaded it back the 1st time, it became all there. No such success the 2d time. i might save all of it onto MP3 cds just to be secure. I particularly have approximately 9,000 songs in my iTunes and it incredibly did no longer take too many cds. It became properly worth it.
