Every three months is a quarter. So the first quarter is January - March. The Second quarter is April - June. The Third quarter is July - September. And the fourth quarter is October - December. I believe a fiscal quarter varies by company. For example the first fiscal quarter for the US government began in October.

First quarter is Jan-Feb & March.
Fiscal year is whatever each business decides to go with. Where I work, our fiscal year begins October 1st.

it began January 1st and ends March 31st. and yes, fiscal year can be different. a fiscal year is any 12 month period where you start on a certain month and end 12 months later. example, you start on July 1st and it ends on June 30th of the next year.
