Although I also hear lots of white kids using it while refering to each other. Spell it any way you like, it's still the same. I personally think that people worry way too much about words. I got called all kinds of bad words when I was an akward kid, but I couldn't care less about those words now. I learned to ignore ignorant people and their ravings. I'm a free speech advocate and a Howard Stern fan.

I don't understand it either. Listen to alot of the black comedians and rappers, you hear the word all the time. If blacks want respect then they really need to start showing respect for themselves. It really is a shame. If they are going to call themselves N"s then they shouldn't be offended if anyone from another race uses it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. You know what I mean?

When the word was made to down grade and disrespect black people back in the day. But now a day(even though it's ignorant) black people use it towards each other inside the races, but when someone out side the race it's down grading them and your not ONE of them so your basically putting your self above them

It's used as a slag/slur by unintelligent people, that have not been shown the correct way to live, and do not have good morals, ethics or enough respect for themselves or anyone else.

And i think people who think that, the new generation of black people have turned it into a sort of positive thing to say, but do not allow other races to say it, are contradicting themselves. It ain't positive if not all people can say it.

Good question but I don't have an answer. I don't get it either. Caucasions such as myself don't typically take offense if called cracker or honke so why all the fuss about it. Sometimes I think it's just an excuse to rant and rave. I'm not prejudice but I really think this is crazy.

According to Black leaders I have heard, it IS NOT alright for Blacks to call each other that word. Yet I know they do because I hear them when I go out in public. I would not call them the N word and wish that they would not call me by a derogatory term.

Its in the same way that only whites can call each other white trash. I'm white so naturally we are all appalled when a peer says it and id smack my kids upside the head if they used it. White people should not say it, it just sounds retarded and is racist. I think people should stop sitting around on their asses all day thinking of dirty ways to use words.

the n word is perceived as a derogatory word used by racists
Blacks have taken this word and turned it around to show there contempt for it
by calling themselves this they are in fact saying " I like this word so much I call all my friends that" thus proving they are unaffected by the slang.
When in fact the term is in the dictionary and describes the ignorant person you mentioned and all the people that use it to describe their friends

Personally, were I am, the word "n*gga" (wit the "A") is not consider a certain race, it's the way u act. As in, u actin' like a n*gga: Rude, ignorant, and stupid. U can see my point. There's a difference between "n*gga" and "n*gger".

However, the word "n*gger" (wit the "ER") it is definately considered a racist slur. And where I'm from, if u say it wit the "ER" ur gonna end up in the E.R.

Otherwise, only Blacks can use it towards each other becuz of our history wit it. I guess u can say it's kinda of a sacred word only meant for Blacks in this generation.

depending on the person, words can have an adverse effect, that can follow the "victim" throughout their life.....therapists will tell you that words have a power all of their own, they can help build someones self esteem, or tear them to shreds. that's great that you were able to "ignore" your persecutors, alot of children are not capable emotionally (maturity level) of doing this....... personally, I feel that it is a degrading word, and that no person should be using this word.....black, white, or in between.
