Why do some women wear slips under their skirts or dresses?

sometimes, you want a skirt to look more poofy, so you use a full slip. but most times, women just want something to go between then dress and their legs because 1) it's uncomfortable if they don't have one 2) some skirts came be sheer. (a slip provides coverage.
