Any ideas what sorts of things he likes? What types of games?
I'll list some in a couple of genres, but it kind of depends on what he likes:

Racing:
Project gotham (1&2)

Shooters:
Halo 1&2 (rated M, although honestly I dont know why. I preferred DOOM 3, but that may be a bit much for a 13 yr old)
Timesplitters
Call of Duty

Fighers:
Dead or Alive
Fight Club
King of fighters

Dungeon Crawlers/RPGs:
Baldurs Gate 1&2
Dungeons and Dragons: heros
Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (Game of the year edition is the best)
Knights of the old Republic (great for Star Wars fans)
Jade Empire

Action:
Prince of persia (3 of them)
Xmen Legends (1&2)
Munch's Odysee
Oddword: Strangers Wrath
Buffy the vampire slayer
Indiana Jones and the emporers Tomb
Voodoo Vince (more of a platformer)

Adventure games
Syberia
Indigo Prophecy (might be a bit much for a 13-yr old)
Shenmue 2
Dreamfall
Pirates Gold

Most of these are older games, so could probably be picked up at a bargain bin somewhere, but if you post a followup with likes/dislikes I could probably give you a better list.

THere are the "need for Speed" games which is a racing game with cars.
The Madden games are football X-box games.
The NBA games are Basketball gGames.
There is also the Sims which is an x-box game that simulates real life, you make people and they work, play, etc.
There is a nascar game for those who like racing.
THere is a motorbike racing game called: Midnight club.THere is a Guitar Hero which is about Music and also,
there is a "MTV Music Generator 3" which allows you to create beats and put samples of music together.
We have the "#3" so I assume that there is a "1" and "2," also.
I believe that there is a "Streetball" game if the child likes Basketball.
If the child likes Soccer, there is a Feifa Soccer game for the x-box.
All of these are nonviolent (Well, as nonviolent as football can be).
BUt, none involve killing or destroying anything.
I am particular about violence, so, I won't even let my guys play boxing or wrestling games.
Hope this gets you started.
