There are 'shades' of every race. Even in Africa, there is variation among the poeples - think of an Egyptian versus Somalian vs. South African. In terms of caucasians, there are the very pale nordic folks, the darker italians, and so on.

Black people vary nowadays in America because we have mixed with white people, Latinos and native Americans so some of us are much lighter then what we looked like 500 years ago and look only remotely like our ancestors. This is not a good thing. Akon looks like a TRUE black African man while T.I. is from the south so I know his ancestors were slaves and is why he is light skin, his ancestor either mixed willingly or was raped by whites.

Blacks are multi-colored because it's all in the genes and alot of African Americans are mixed with different things. Akon I think he is from somewhere around Jamaica. But I am not sure. Like I said it all in the genes and the backgrounds. My mother is medium light brown , and me and my brother are the same but my little brother is light skinned about TI color. He is the only one that is light. It came from his dad side he has two uncles that are light and the rest are brown or darker. It's the milllenan in the skin. It;s all kinds of reasons. But for whatever reason it is all beautiful colors.

Wow...For the same reason that some white people are really fair, and some are darker.

Much of it is in the breeding...Many of the blacks here in the U.S. are descentdants of the men who owned slaves, so their skin is lighter...And the Moors invaded Spain somewhere around 700, so quite a few Europeans have skin that's a llittle darker.

Not to mention the fact that in everyone's DNA there are slight variations.

We generally divide humanity in three main racial groups: Caucasian (White) , Asian and African (Black). Whithin each group, however, there are wide ranges of skin tones, hair texture and facial features. Therefore a Caucasian with Scandinavian heritage is not going to have the same skin tone as one from Southern Italy . The same difference goes with an Asian from Northern Japan and one from Southern Thailand; an African from Ethiopia and one from Nigeria.

African Americans have ancestry who came from many regions of Africa, from many differernt African groups who too have differences in things such as skin tones, features and statures.
In America, many of them have also mixed with Caucasians or Native Americans and thus, even precipitating more differences in physical characteristics.

The same reason whites are multi-toned and every other race.... It is your skins pigment that determines what color or shade of color that you are.
