which you can use in order not to catch an STD or get pregnant
you dont need NOT to have sex

Its government policy to teach abstinence. Its not like it actually works though. They should just teach them to use protection.

Sex before marriage is frowned upon in most religious circles in America. Schools aren't religously operated, but they have few options on teaching. To help battle the spread of disease in youth and the rate of teen pregnancy, the governement decided to teach abstanace only education. Students are encouraged to save sex for marriage. Many believe that condoms should be made available for those who refuse to wait, but you get into some heavy politics there...no adult wants to look as if they are saying "hey kids...sex is OK." It's a thin line...very thin line. So, this is pretty much why the schools push for "no sex" as opposed to "safe sex."

my school taught me that. and here's the reason why people have an opinion that having sex before you're married is wrong. adults have seen and heard about MANY people who had sex before marriage, and they either got an STD, got pregant(if girl) etc. people who end up having a kid from it also get into a veyr tight and unmanageable situation. even guys! so seeing all this misery happen to people about this issue, they say that sex before marriage isn't right. and as for MOST of the kids (hopefully) they hear this in gory and horrifying detail, that they end up thinking the same.

they used to avoid sex ed entirely, but they only "suggest " it now, mostly influenced by a teacher's personal opinion-- and that's for their own religious reasons. now they teach safe sex and skip the marriage talk, unless it's a parochial school. separation of church and state in public schools (the law over here) is really not followed to the letter, ESPECIALLY if the teacher thinks it's ok to tout religion "in the kids' best interests" it's a person-to-person judgement call. I'm in New york, I'm sure somewhere in Iowa they're still giving those bible rules......

yes i learned this in skool
it is because
if you go and sleep with like a ton of people
u'd get an STD
but then if u fall in love and get married
and decide to have kids...
u are putting ur significent other at risk
and u really don't want to do that right??
that and most teenagers do not
have the qualities and money it takes to be a parent
if by some chance they should get pregnant

No, in fact I can remember back in middle school we would have assembly's where these abstinence advocates would come in and try to brainwash kids into waiting until marriage. Typical American school, not giving us both sides of the story (where were the non-Abstinence advocates) and ultimately most kids became sexual fiends because they didn't want to grow up as lame as these abstinence presenters seemed.

Well the opinion comes from the BIBLE. And that is Gods word, thats what He wishes for us to do.

Now as far as what I was taught in school.... safe sex. Just if you're going to do it then protect yourself.

Mostly, we get it from something called "common sense". Abstinence is the ONLY way to prevent STDs and pregnancy. We don't want our children to get pregnant or die, so we teach abstinence, both at school and at home.
I'm sure you really do think it's completely wrong. Fortunately, you won't be influencing my kids as much as I will.

When I was in school they taught us safe sex, so I would say no not so much do not before marriage, as much as do not with out protection

Because it is culture. It's been considered bad, like adultry, to have sex before marrage for ever. Just is.
