Would it be wise, or necessary, to change the filter every 3k miles to make sure I am getting the full benefits of their oil? I want to make the full 15k miles before I change the oil completely.

Thanks in advance

I've never actually met anyone that would go the full 15K before. Mobil 1 is great and I've used it since the 70s, but it doesn't stop the oil from getting dirty, and the filter, new or old, can't catch everything. The oil still absorbs water and acids.

My dad, a mechanic of forty plus years, and I have used the 15,000 mile Mobile oil your talking about and it works great. When he changed the oil after the 15k miles it looked better than most regualr oil Ive seen after 5k miles. I think your question is do you still change the filter every three thousand miles when you use the 15 thousand mile oil, the answer would be no. Go get you a K&N oil filter, they cost more than a regular filter but there well worth the price, and the 15k oil and youll be fine.

By the way if you get a K&N air filter they come with a 1 million mile warranty, you just clean and oil it instead of changing it but they are very expensive, of course youll only have to buy one.

There are two reasons for changing engine oil and filter. The oil is dirty/contaminated, or the additive package in the oil is used up.

Generally, change oil and filter between 3,000 and 5,000 miles under really severe conditions and 5 – 7,500 if the engine’s being babied.

Synthetic oil? Go right ahead. But you still have to change it at the same intervals. Remember it’s not the oil that’s bad. It’s the sulfur contaminants you must remove from the engine to keep damaging acid from forming. Just changing the filter does NOT remove the contaminants from the crankcase.

Now you know. You decide.

I wouldn't go 15k on anyone's oil. I use that oil in my Benz, which has an oil monitor. It usually tells me to change it between 9-10,000 miles. You could have your oil analyzed at 10k to see if you need to change it, but the price will have you halfway to an oil change. Take good care of your car. Trying to save a buck can often cost you much more.

They are so cheap you should always change your oil filter when doing any oil change, especially if your changing the oil viscosity. Whenever your oil begins to change color, change it regardless of the miles you have put on it.

Depends on what year your vehicle is & your driving conditions. If your vehicle gets up to proper operating temperature before you shut it off & if your vehicle is fairly new(not older than 7 years) definately just change the filter & top off the oil level as needed

All synthetic oils recommend you change the filter each time you change the oil.
