Why are people assuming that Shawn was a runaway???? This statement just makes me so angry! We need to watch the news and look at the details as they unfold, before deciding that we know what happened! I saw a report on the news that stated he was taken against his will at gun point. People need to stop being so judgmental and let this family reunite. Let Shawn decide on what he wants to share with the world. I am just as interested in what happened to him as anyone, but it is not for us to decide the circumstances of the disappearance, and judge him or his family on talking with the media.

People probably assume that because we all put ourselves in their situation, and when we think of what WE would've done, we think, "he had several opportunities to escape, I know I would've taken one." ....Of course since none of us were actually IN his situation, we dont know that for sure. Also we have to keep in mind, this boy was 11 when he was kidnapped. Even if he could escape several times, children believe adults, that man obviously scared him into believing that if he ever tried to escape, something drastic would happen to him. Possibly he threatened his family, maybe he said he had people watching the house 24/7...we dont know. But its not hard at all to intimidate an 11 year old. He was scared, and I truly believe that. We cant point fingers because it didnt happen to us and we dont know how we'd react in that situation.

And even though (most of us) are adults, if we got kidnapped and the person who did it told us, "if you try to escape, I'll go back and kill your family" Do you really think we'd make a run for it? We'd definitely hesitate, and we're adults, he was a kid.. He probably didnt realize he could go to the cops or anybody else for that matter. I think he was brainwashed, and clearly lied to.

You can look at someone's problems, and think "if it was me, I would've done this.. or that." But, it's NOT you. And you don't even know if you were facing the exact same sitation, what you would really do.

This family may very well be doing exactly what they need to be doing.

That sicko kidnapper may have scared that boy into staying put by threats and brainwashing. This seems likely to me. Scare a little boy enough, and he's going to do exactly what you tell him to.

The parents may be thinking that an interview on Oprah (who isn't the type to push that boy into saying things he doesnt want to) will be enough to satisfy the world's morbid curiosity. Then, they can be done with it.

Cause there are people in the news that just love to stick their noses where it doesn't belong.
