I'll throw you a few sentences and you can use them to jumpstart your creative juices......
"Nobody has found just what they're looking for"
"You are quick to point your finger at one"
"I am learning myself so that I may judge you"
"Underneath it all, I'm desperate like you"
"I don't cry at funerals, I don't laugh at jokes"
"Excuse me while I hide away"
........ I'm writing a song at the moment and have too many ideas, so you are welcome to use the ones I haven't gone with :)

Do you play an instrument as well? Some people just try and compose a tune 1st then wrap words around it.
Then theres the other who write the words and make the tune fit the words.
the 3rd way is to write music and words together, if they work, keep them - if not, change the words or the music to suit.
the best way I'd say is to decide what genre of music your band is going to play then write lyrics that will appeal to that genres fans. see if you can write lyrics with someone else, that way you can bounce ideas off each other.
Always try to write music or lyrics that suit the voices and vocal ranges of the people that are going to sing it.

Just look around you and take notes. For example if i did it, i would write.......My trampoline is never used. On in hang all my dirty clothes. The windows are all open to let out all the smoke and foul talk. My boyfriend badly needs a shave, My poor face is all red from his stubble. I wish he would go and sit somewhere else so i could stretch my legs. My long hairy legs.
Most songs seem to consist of nonsensical s****. Just write anything and put music to it. Easy peasy. I should do this for a living!!!

You really can't force it. If you do, it wil be the song that you quickly grow to hate and be ashamed to play.
I usually just get some music going by playing around. Then when I have a tune that I like I try to find melodies that fit well with it and sometimes that can get you a line or two that you can build from.

Mind map it baybee! Idea in the center, then loadsa little branches coming out, and think about how they can be connected, mould them into a story. Failing that, write a mystery book about a turkey and a penguin. There just aren't enough books about turkeys these days.

write a song about when you lost your virginity or about a car crash or a dead dog
they are all common themes for songs
(but not all in the same song, unless you're a grunge punk band and a song about loosing your viginity in a car crash that also killed your dog would be good)
