I am 14 years old right now and I am in eighth grade. I am 5,7 140LBs and growing. I catch for my school team I throw mid seventies from my crouch I am not sure what my pop time is. I was wondering if at this rate I have a chance at college baseball?

take it from an ex D1 college catcher... practice / practice / practice. Being a catcher means being the "leader" of the team. You control the speed of the game, and should be the most vocal of all players. Practice release times / Blocking / soft-receiving hands. If you're good, the scouts will find you. You're at the age that you need to start going to some college baseball camps. That's a great way to get seen, and make contact with other coaches. Best of Luck!!!

First off, at 230, I would work on my speed and agility. Though you are not very tall, you might make a better end or possibly a linebacker in college. Secondly, your chances really depend on how bad you want it. I am sure you can always find some school that could use a little help. If you are expecting to play for UT or Miami, I can tell you right now, you are not going to make it off the bat. If you are looking to play division 1-AA, you might find a way onto a roster somewhere. Like I said, it all depends on how bad you want it. Heart will not always beat talent, but it means a hell of a lot more out on the field. If I could make a recommendation, watch Invincible or Rudy if you have not seen those movies. If you have seen them, watch them again. Those are stories of real men who proved just how far heart can go. Good luck, bud.

Agree w everyone else. You can do it if you stay focused & use every opportunity available to develop your physical skills, & watch, listen, & learn everything you can about the strategies & mental decision that make baseball such a great game.

Talk to any local coach you have access to & ask for their guidance to find players in your area who have outstanding talent & are open to giving you advice & constructive criticism.

Take good care of your body w exercise & good nutrition. Make sure you don't develop habits like smoking & drinking which will diminish your skills (not being judgemental, but it's true)

Finally find someone else you can count on to practice w , even if it's only throwing & fielding together. AND.....as Cal Ripken Sr once said, "Practice doesn't make perfect....PERFECT practice makes perfect" Good Luck You CAN do it!!

Yes, you're the next Jason Varitek.

If you keep working, and college scouts get a good look at you, why not. Hopefully you go to a larger school that is actively recruited. There's also the walk-on route, but that's a tough road...

If you can hit, that helps. A lot of catchers call a good game, but can't hit a lick.

A dream is nothing if you don't pursue it...

As long as you keep up with it, don't get lazy, and stay good in school, your off with a scholarship. Keep your grades within the B-A range and you'll get long looks from the best schools in the country.

Sure, if you actually are good at the whole game, not just one or two things.
