i'm asking because the Summits are 100 dollars cheaper and i've always thought Goodyear made great tires. so what gives?

It's hard to say. I've had both and they are about "Equal". Summit tires will give you a smoother ride. If you get the cheap ones, "well you get what you pay for". Go to tirerack.com and you can do a comparison. They have all the specs and warranty info. I'm looking at getting new tires for my 2002 GMC Sonoma. I'm looking at a set of Summits or Yokohamas to replace the Tiger Paws that on the truck now.

Personally, I would go with the Yoko's. Owned several sets and been pleased with all of them.

Goodyear is rapidly getting itself out of the private-label business so the Summit's may not be around much longer.

First choice = Goodyear tires...

Second choice = Yokohoma tires...

Both are excellent choices!
