oldman MAY be right, could be the sending unit, try changing it. They are cheap and usually not hard to change. Could also be engine wear, and another answer suggests. How many miles on car? I DON'T agree that a heavier oil will not help. Don't go nuts and put in straight 50 wt. but if you are using 5w-30, you can safely go to a 10-30, or even a straight 30 without hurting anything. BUT if you park outside for more than 3 or 4 hours, you may not want to use a straight weight during cold (Below freezing) weather.

That's usually worn crank bearings. Whatever it is, it's a sign of a worn engine. If it was electrical the other gauges would change at idle too. A bad sensor would probably be bad or erratic all the time.
Thicker oil might make the light go away, but it will actually be worse for the engine, since it wouldn't flow into the tight spaces as well.

did you replace the oil tension pump?? in case you probably did no longer try this.......circulate to NAPPA and get one in each and every of thier top type oil filters. no longer all oil filters are the comparable. Nomad the cam bearing is where you get your oil pressure from not the crank. But it sounds like to me the oil pressure sending unit is more than likely bad.

Bad oil pressure sending unit, oil filter plugged, oil too thin, engine bearings worn badly, bad oil pump.

replace oil sending unit it probably has leak and will not hold the pressure
