I've been living in central Florida since 1980, but am considering moving to India (where I was born) in a few years. One US dollar is worth about 44 Rupees. But what can you buy with a Rupee? Here, an 8 ounce (227 grams) cup of yogurt costs half a dollar. An oil change for my car at a local dealership costs $15. A new Honda Civic costs $15,000. A small, 2 bedroom house costs $100,000. Can someone tell me what all these things would cost in India? And how available would these items be, say in an area near a major city such as Calcutta?

Well a Honda Civic in india will cost you about $25,000 to 30,000. A cup of yougurt will cost you the same half dollar. As regards to the house it depends on the the locality and type of accomadation. These days flats in metros in upscale areas are costing around $150 per square feet ( so calculate the area you want for your two bedroom apartment). But then slightly out of the main hub you will be able to get a decent accomadation for $100,000.
Has this clarified your queries and Cost of living is'nt cheap as you think

For the things you described, price is same everywhere you go.Like, you may have to spend more than Rs. 650,000 to buy a car.Labour is the only thing little cheaper. You can hire a good household help for about $100 per month.Prices of houses near big cities are more than you will find in Florida.
