i dont have a mohawk or anything but i like to express myself i guess you could sayi dont like to walk around in a colared shirt with my colars flipped up so i wear band shirts t shirts things like that but why do soo many people have to be "emo".
the "emo" think is not the big deal the people that dress emo like my chemical romance and good charloote or simple plan bands that totally suck and sold out. it gives people like me a bad name. kids need to learn thier own music not just what trl tells you is good. like my chemical romance bing out forever and soon as trl gets em then bam everyone know who they are time for 14 yr girls to dye thier hair black and were thier hoodies.

If I could give you the nobel prize for asking this I definitely would. I guess a star will do. I'm so sick of people saying that MCR, GC, SP, P!ATD are ****** EMO its NOT. REAL emo would NEVER be seen on MTV and heard on radio, actually the real emo sub-genre has died out in the mid-90s. I hate how these hollister wearing kiddys with their flip flops flood hot topic and buy some black eyeliner and a freakin taking back sunday shirt and ALL of a sudden they are like so totally depressed and gothic. Listen to whatever you wish, but don't be anything you know about. I hate it. Real punk and gothic people understand that there is a lifestyle involved and not just for fashion. That they have certain views on life, and live by certain principles.I hate how people are all of a sudden sXe and vegan because Davey Havok is, and they don't even know the true meanings of this and they think that if they drop animal products, caffiene, and drugs out their diets they'll be just LIKE Davey. I know that there are people who are inspired by Davey's choices, and wisely and consciously (sp) decide to make these life decisions. Like they go over these decisions with family members and a doctor. People don't realize how sick you can get if you just drastically change your life like that because someone on tv is like that. Bottom line, listen to whatever the hell you wanna, but be yourselves kids. Don't be a clone. I listen to MCR and AFI....I LIVE for MCR and AFI but I do not consider myself "emo", punk, goth, I am just myself....Combat Candii.

P.S. Today's "emo" is just some made up ****.

Because the word "punk" is in "pop/punk", so they think they can be considered, "punk" because they like MCR. The girl who described herself as a "MCR-loving prep" just proves how stupid that argument is. The word "key" can be found in the word "monkey", but you wouldn't try to open your front door by shoving Curious George into the like would you (I hope not)? Pop music (a la Britney Spears) and punk (a la The Sex Pistols, the Pixies, the Ramones, the Clash, etc.) are two very different things, like chocolate and cheese, and when you mix them, you get something that should never have been made (like choco-cheese sticks). Now MTV and the record industry are driving this because they control what is played, and they have flooded the stations teens listen to with "music" such as crunk rap and emo stuff. The alternative scene has been destroyed, as all the bands to come out of that scene recently have been *SURPRISE*, emo acts. Now when there's nothing to listen to but your parent's LP's or the stuff on the radio, what are you gonna do. And then presto, you too are a whiny little emo kid with hair that looks like an anime cartoon and a wardrobe like Johnny Cash, except with metal thingies on it.

Fortunately, I studied jazz and that led me to my parent's LP's.

Yes I do listen to those bands and you might want to check out The Casualties, they are a true old school punk band. People have always confused punk with fashion or a certain style. I think Sid Vicious said it best....when asked what is punk, he kicked over a garbage can. The person asking then kicked over a garbage can and replied so that is punk? Sid replied No that is a trend.

ok...look...emo was here way before you were i'm sure. Emo is an expression of feelings too and if someone wants ot do it let them. you are complaining about how these ppl give you a bad name...but these ppl are doing it for them, not you. and also, what if they just feel like you do and think the style is kewl and comfortable...that's why i dress that way. Maybe they are not just try to be like all the other ppl that "think" they are emo. That's just the way they are. Can you not accept that? As for MCR selling out...you know...no! And as for those bands that suck...that is your total opinion...and apparently not theirs. Don't try to push your opinion on someone else, it's just wrong...Why do you think you are the only one who wants to express your self and not just be like everyone else. Everyone has their own sense of style believe it or not...whatever!

they're just "emo" because it's the cool thing to be. it's no different than ANY OTHER FAD EVER. for example, let's say it was cool to be a surfer dude like in the 80's.. all of these people would be surfer dudes then

it's like when the "grunge bands" nirvana, soundgarden and pearl jam became really big, it became the cool thing to wear flannel shirts and ripped blue jeans

music and style are constantly evolving, just as the definition of music is always changing, but one thing that will never change is that people need to be introduced to music by some path, if the path of the pretender leads to the door of the master, should you not enjoy the journey there, if you never arrive then you will never know

I hear ya, I don't really watch MTV, Vh1, or FUSE because they don't play bands that I like. The era where bands got big through touring and radioplay are gone. It's now the era or marketing and label push.
