Have the computer scanned for codes. You have a dozen or more sensors that feed information back into the computer every second. One of these may be bad. You could also have a vacuum leak.

EGR valve
is usually the common cause of that code.
clean it if it just looks carboned up clear the code & see if it comes back... if that doen't work it may need to be replaced
if it is obiously defective then replace it..... prices vary but about $100
check this first it is the most common if the valve looks good check hoses connecting to it & check for leaks or a hose that has become accidently disconnected.

Had the same problem with 2002 Ford tempo..i had it scanned and found out that the oxygen sensor needs replacement.

It could also be your fuel injectors. You can go to Auto Zone or any other local auto parts store and have it read to see what all is wrong with it. They have the equipment to do the coding.

sounds like a fuel or electrical problem, there is a part called a throttle position sensor, if its bad it could cause your problem. you need to have a mechanic check it.
