Also the Edy, Kennedy & Durante have good feedback in lots of the travel books. Enjoy!

Keep in mind that you will need to stay in the 5 stars hotel if you want to have not too shabby ambient. Even sometimes 4 stars hotel in Milan looks like 2 stars.

I know one that's fairly shabby but ridiculously cheap and in a PERFECT location. Hotel Nuova doesn't have a website, but you can click the link below to see my own photos of the place. I stayed there in the summer of 2005 and paid EUR 30 per night for a private room with a shared bathroom. It's a one-minute (max!) walk from the Duomo (which is the tourist center).

I just stayed at Hostel Demo. (It's not a hostel, but a 2-star hotel) It's near Milano Centrale train station. It was safe, clean, quiet, double with ensuite bath/shower for 65 Euro including buffet breakfast, taxes, service. It has a bar with snacks but no restaurant. Internet available for 5 euro. I'd stay there again. It's at Via Tonale 14, 20125 Milano, IT

Yeah, this one's pretty cool, in a neighborhood that's kinda like SoHo in NY:

It's close to the train station and downtown, plus it's fairly quiet.
