I think it's actually a really interesting question. As the guy said below, it's the internet, so we can't really tell how old you are. But at the same time, people go to all this trouble to identify themselves--"senorskeez" obviously is sending a message about himself, as well as "katiecutie." I'm guessing Katie is 16, and senorskeez is a high school senior with raging hormones... or a 19-year-old frat guy.

And definitely, I think that what you think about who your audience is... be it young or old, smart or stupid, etc, colors how you answer. I would be very careful with a younger recipient not to swear, and would probably keep the level of vocabulary pretty basic. With an older person, I might feel free to be more complex, and I wouldn't worry as much about making things exact, precise, and unquestionably clear.

I think what it comes down to on this site, though, at least for me, is whether I'm going to respond or not. I always think (a) can I help this person, and (b) is it worth my time? Often, with people I feel are too young, or immature, or just messing around trying to get responses, for whatever weird reason, I don't bother.

So I guess age is really just a proxy for seriousness. I treat serious questions one way, and frivolous ones another--maybe more serious questions tend to come from older people, maybe not.

I love the idea of age-ism this brings up, though. I'll be interested to hear what others say.

I answer each question the same. I don't care how old you are. Frankly, I can't tell. The internet is anonymous so no one can tell how old you are. Even if you say, there's no telling if it's true or if you're just pretending for whatever reason.

I only answer differently if you post the same question multiple times, but with a slight twist. I'll often refer to my previous answer, or if it's the same question, I just summarize cuz I've gotten annoyed.

That depends on your question.

An adult will have different experiences than a teenager, so my response to your question might depend on what experiences I would guess that you've had, based on your age. Certainly someone who is 65 years old has had vastly different experiences than a 15-year-old!
