That error is indicative (though not conclusive proof) that there's an issue with the actual memory (RAM) chips inside your machine. The only way to investigate further is to open the thing up and poke around inside, so if you're not comfortable doing that then you'll need to take it to some kind of repair shop. If you are happy doing then then you've got two options, depending on what the setup of your machine is:
- If you've got more than one 'strip' of RAM installed then you can remove the strips of RAM one at a time until the machine stops erroring, then you've found your culprit and you can just buy a replacement for that broken strip of RAM.
- If you've only got a single strip of RAM in your machine then you'll simply need to buy a new one to replace it and that should sort everything out.

Use the following steps to back up your most important personal data:
Click Start then My Computer.

A parity error was detected within the system memory. Parity checking is used to detect memory corruption between the time that data is written to memory and the time that it is read back.
This error message means that there is a problem associated with the system memory. Depending on the system, you may be told some specifics about what part of memory caused the error.
There are many possible causes of memory parity errors, some of them only related indirectly to the memory, or even having nothing to do with the memory at all. In particular, a memory error at start up is often indicative of a wide variety of possible problems.
