Why only western or democratic countries ? You are beinbg very selfish. What wrong did the innumerable hapless women in Muslim countries (like Pakistan) do to you (who got gang-raped and need at least several live witnesses to even approach a court of law) ? More than anyone else, they need the ban.

The Constitution of the United States guarentees in the First Amendment the right to freely exercise religion.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"
So such a law would not be Constitutional in the United States. In fact, I would bet that the Supreme Court wouldn't even hear the case as your law banning Islam would be correctly overturned at a lower level in the judicial branch.
Rick N.
I guarentee your Constitutional amendment would never pass in the United States. You would be lucky to pressure a Senator or Congressman to even bring the issue up.

There are islamic countries with democracies-- India has lots of muslims and they're the largest democracy in the world. Technically, Iraq is a democracy now too.
That said, in the US it would be unconstitutional to ban any religion (and I'll bet many other countries are that way too).
Besides, then those countries would be no better than the Islamic countries that essentially bad other religions (like christianity). Why would we want to be like them?

It isn't a threat to democracy. Turkey is both a democratic Islamic country and a member of NATO.
Radical Islam should be fought. The idea of banning an entire religion is Nazism. Pure and simple.

NO. If we ban Islam we go against everything the United States of America stands for and the terrorist have won. What rights guarenteed by our Constitution would go next? What kind of American is willing to give up their rights for a little protection? This was a question asked and answered by Ben Franklin. Once you start to give up some of your freedoms the rest won't be far behind. To me only a pantywaist chicken would want to start giving up their freedoms. Or, maybe some right wing conservative Republicans.

The religion alone doesnt threaten anything. Its the radicals that fight over which way to pray and such that take it to extremes that gives the islam religion a bad picture around everywhere else.

should Islam be forbidden in democratic countries?
They would then cease to be democratic countries. There are 10 million Muslims in the US. You can either force them to convert to another religion (Ala the inquisition) or you can deport them. Keep in mind most of them are from the US and have never lived in another country, or have been here since they were children.

Islam should not be forbidden, but it should be watched MUCH more closely and have stricter rules about what they can preach. A BBC thing came out recently where they went undercover and found them preaching terrible hate speech in supposedly "moderate" mosques, also preaching violence against infadels, women, democracy and homosexuals. We cannot permit this extremism to spread throughout our culture
