This is a link to the FAQ about the visa statues of enrolling students to FIT.
Those questions and answers say FIT does not take in admitted students who does not have F-1 visa, but the #10 on the question says "yes".
Can somebody please explain to me this?
And if you know people who are enrolled in degree program at FIT are not in legal statue?
I thought people who are living in NY where all able to attend FIT,
upon passing the admission requirements.

Very confused...

Hello

If you read the web site more closely, you will see that NYU/FIT admits many students who do not have F-1 visas. That of course does not mean the students are in the USA illegally, and you really should be more careful with such generalizations.

I have had students whose husbands, or wives, or parents, were in the diplomatic corps or employed by businesses in the USA. The students had every right to apply to matriculate in our colleges and universities - they often become some of the greatest friends of the USA when they return to their home countries.

NYU suggests that a student who intends to be around long enough to graduate obtain an F-1 visa, but it is not mandatory.

What is mandatory, and very obvious on the NYU/FIT web site you referenced, is that a foreign student must include a copy of the USA visa. No visa, no admission - so your suggestion that "illegal aliens" are attending is totally without foundation and indeed is directly opposite to reality.

The following types of students may apply, but will not receive benefits:

1. students who come to the U.S. for the sole purpose of studying, who must obtain an F-1 visa;
2. students who live in the U.S. and don't obtain an F-1 visa.

You can still be admitted, but you will receive limited benefits in the form of financial aid, etc.

Sounds to me like they will admit students who are illegal immigrants, but they will not offer degrees to them, even if they have completed the requirements. They will get certification that they have completed the requirements, though.

F-1 Visa's allow a person from another country to study in the US, without having to go through the Green Card process. These students, to the best of my knowledge, are eligible for all aid programs that US Citizens are. Those who are not legally in the US are not eligible for aid programs.

So, to answer your question...yes, they will admit illegal immigrants into the school, but will not award them the benefits that are available to those who are in this country legally.
