I don't know why marijuana is not legal but when was the last time you heard of someone having ten joints and wanting to fight the world, or getting arrested for being STONED AND DISORDERLY? People falling around in the casualty department on a Saturday night having smoked too much dope and being aggressive? I know cigarettes are bad but I think alcohol is the REAL baddie.. !?

Its not about whether or not the government can tax it. The alcohol and tobacco companies are established and pour too much money into Washington to get banned. Who is gonna put that kind of money into Washington to legalize pot? The other big lobbyist in Washington is the pharmecutical companies. If pot were legal, sales would go down for antidepressants and many other drugs. So it is in the interest of the pharmecutical companies to keep pot illegal. Alcohol and cigarettes also contribute to illness, therefore it is also in the interest of the pharmecutical companies to keep alcohol and cigarettes illegal. If we stay sick due to drinking and smoking, the drug companies profit as well as the alcohol and tobacco companies.

Ohh yeh, The addicts will try anything to get their little mary jane plant made legal.
I could site examples of where Marijuana was at one time sold over the counter of Chemists in cigarette from for the treatment of Asthma. Problem was that these Asthmatics smoked them when they were driving and had accidents. Smoked at work and had accidents with machinery. The DHA eventually withdrew them and banned their sale as they did more harm than good.
This experiment you speak of is still largely unproven. If it is eventually trialled it will not be in the form of cigarettes, it will more likely be in the form of a chemical extract that will be marketed under perscription as a capsule or pill and will be expensive.
So don't hold your breath thinking that this research will eventually have MaryJane legalised or freely available to those wanting to use it. It will initially be on the restricted list and perscription only!

Drugs are illegal because the best pot, coke, and heroin, come from South America and the Middle East.
I wish they'd make pot legal, no sense in druggies getting sent to jail for getting high while rapists roam free. Plus, California's biggest crop is marijuana. Think of all the money they could make if they taxed it.

Too many people fear marijuana due to unfamiliarity with the substance. Psychiatric Times offers some unbiased research on Marijuana if you want to build up your foundation of facts.

i don't smoke pot, cigarette or drink. I have personally wondered the same thing. I think alcohol has way worse effects on people than marijuana. I'm sure it has to do with lobbyists and those alcohol and tabacoo people have their fangs sunk deep into the government.

I think whoever stated that people were hurting others or getting into accidents because they smoked a cheeba are ignorant. I have NEVER once heard of anything like that...the thing with pot is that NOTHING happens.

I'm not sure. I hear too many cases of people getting drunk and driving then killing an innocent family on the road, but i've never heard the same about pot, hmmm, doesn't make sense does it?

Because corporate America has not yet found a production and distribution channel sufficient to turn a profit. Once they do, it will be legal.
