No, it won't help a great deal. 60% of heat that escapes your house goes out through windows and doors that are not sealed or out of date. And the other percentage goes out through where there is not enough insulation. Heat does not go down...it goes up. Therefore, trying to prevent heat from escaping and going down, won't help any.

We have exactly that situation. Plastic will not do much, and the moisture retention may cause problems.

Our crawl space has a hole in the foundation (where the coal chute use to be for the coal furnace which was replaced in 1954) - so the air under the kitchen was C-O-L-D, making the kitchen floor noticably chillier.

I rolled in fiberglass insullation rolls under the floor (IN the crawl space) - it was pretty easy - pay attention to which side the roll says to put against the living area (against the underside of the floor). It made a difference. The floor was not quite so chilly chilly chilly.

It won't do enough to notice. You would be better off laying the plastic on the ground. That will act as a vapor barrier drying out the air. That is better for your house and the dryer air is less conductive so your floor will stay warmer.

You will have to cover the entire crawlspace not just under the kitchen.

Depends on the severity, you may need to get professional help. However if the condition is still manageable, and you have removed the excess water / moisture; all you need to you is to spray the areas with vinegar water. Make sure you put on proper protective gear like goggles, face mask, long rubber gloves and disposable clothing when you're handling with mold. Mix 1 part of white vinegar to 1 part of warm water. Spray the solution onto the problem spots and let it to sit for at least 15 minutes. You may use undiluted white vinegar if the molds are stubborn. Repeat this again and wait for another 15 minutes. Now, scrub off the mold with a mixture of Borax and vinegar. Repeat this until all the molds are gone. Rinse well or wipe clean with a damp cloth if rinsing is not possible. Allow the area to dry completely. Lastly spray a layer of undiluted white vinegar over the walls and floor. Leave it without rinsing. This helps to disinfect and prevent future mold growth. Hope this helps.

yes and it will trap moisture causing a great deal of rot ( you need to use fiberglass batts between the joist with no vapor barrier or with the vapor barrier against the sub floor - the surrounding wood will absorb and dissipate the moisture that forms between the barrier and the sub floor - DO NOT SEAL THE SPACE )

the cheap solution is too use inexpensive foam or fabric matts where you stand and a rug under the table if you have one

insulation is what you want. If you want to use the plastic (which you should)place it on the ground of the crawl space. In case you didn't know, you are supposed to do this around the entire crawl to prevent radon from seeping into your home.

Doubtful? Since warm air rises, it will do little to eliminate your cold floor. Get a good ceramic space heater, that should help.
