How close to my due date should I start my leave from work? Do I wait until I go into labor? Just wondering...

I would hate to go into labor at work. That would suck. =)

It really depends on how you are feeling, how much time you want to "get ready" and/or how much time you can financially afford to take off.
With my first, I think I stopped working a week before my due date. With the second, I worked until the "day" I went into labor and by the time we had our third, I was already staying home.

Its up to you when you want to start your maternity leave. I'm probably going to stop working 2 weeks before (due the first of June) and since I work in a very relaxed and caring office, there has been no objections about anything ...unless they see me trying to run too many errands and am afraid I might injure myself. You should talk to your HR department and figure it out completely, while also getting the facts straight on how long you will be out, whether a replacement is necessary for your position, whether it is paid or unpaid maternity leave, etc. Once again, it's personal preference on when you decide to leave and no one should make you stay longer than you feel comfortable. Congratulations and good luck!

With me, for my first I took off two weeks before my due date and wound up going into labor a week early...so I really only had 1 week off. So if this is your first, you have to keep in mind that with first pregnancy's you can go into labor anywhere from1 week early to 2 or 3 weeks late.

I would wait. If you take off early and go over 40 weeks, the clock is still ticking. Most employers don't care when the baby arrives (as long as it's not during a board meeting...ew) but when you walk out that door to go on leave, you're on the clock and have 3 months to get your bottom back into that cubicle.

I left my job two weeks before my due date because I didn't want to go into labor at work.It also gave me time to make sure I was prepared for the baby. I was really glad I did.

depends where you live..
but in Calif, for disability, you are entitled to get paid 4 weeks before your due date and 6 weeks after delivery for a normal deliver or 8 weeks for c-section.
I can't tell you how much you will get because they look at the last paychecks and go by that.. it might 1/2 of your paycheck..
so if you can afford to live off of that for a few weeks, then go for it!!
i am planning on taking off 2 1/2 weeks prior to my due date.

Depends on the type of job....if it's a job safe to do until labor then yes usually you work until delivery. If it's too physical then women need to be off at a certain point. I work in an office lol, so nothing real dramatic here....and all the women here work until delivery. One even had her water break here...some men were "embarrased" they were here, but it was cute. Woman who work were my husband works (he is a regional sales rep for a food company) have to be off by their 3rd trimester. It depends! It's best to talk to your doctor about that and see what he/she recommends in your situation. Good Luck!!
