There are many species of spiders and tarantulas are one of them. Technically tarantulas are a species within a genus (spiders).

True tarantulas are spiders belonging to the family Theraphosidae. All tarantulas are spiders but not all spiders are tarantulas. A very misunderstood but fascinating creature, the tarantula though makes a great 'pet'. I keep 4 at home

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Arachnida
Order: Araneae
Suborder: Mygalomorphae
Superfamily: Theraphosoidea
Family: Theraphosidae

A Tarantula is a Spider. much in the same way; a Poodle is a Dog.

A Tarantula differs to the domestic variety of spider in many ways. for more information regarding the Tarantula, see sources.

On a side note, just for poops & giggles, here's an article on Arachnaphobia too.

A tarantula is a type of spider. That's a little like asking what the difference is between a fish and a trout.

I like the Pob pic by the way! Not seen my mate Pob in a long time.

Cheers.
