Yes there is help for you... Especially if you have an eviction letter, Public Housing Authority - Housing Assistance -
H.U.D. all of these can either help or direct you in the right direction.. I know a lot of Churches will pay part of your rent , Most are Catholic Churches .. Catholic Charity of Houston ( You Do Not Have To Be Catholic To Receive Help ) ..Christ The King, located on N. Main St - Houston Texas ..

Very Helpful At This Time Is The New City Number For So Much Needed Information ... Just Call the number 311 from any Houston line and get bunches of information..

I know you may not want to be in the office that is evicting you right now buttttt ....ask them for a list of places that help people that need assistance. Now if you got an eviction letter most of them say you have like so many days or so to pay rent. Do not freak out with the 3 day notice procedure it is standred procedure. If you made arrangments ok. Well guess what too ?? It takes at least 1-2 weeks for you to get served and then another 1week or so for court date so when you go to judge ask him before the landlord to let you stay till the end of the month because you have nowhere to stay. If the landlord is "smart" he will say OK because you can threaten them with asking the Judge right in front of the landlord about the "paupers law". This scares the landlord most of the time and would rather let you stay till the end of the month than for you to plead the Paupers law because if you appeal and win you will get to live there "rent free" for several months, so they would rather let you stay there till the end of month and not rent free for several months. Be careful if you decide to pay rent after eviction most landlords will take the $$ and still evict you even it is illegal to do that. Some may not. If you are in good cahoots with the office and trust them it's your call. If you go to get free housing at the Houston housing auth. they will put you on a 3-4 year waiting list. God Bless hope all goes well.

Just say you are a Katrina survivor. They'll set you up in a nice townhouse and keep picking up your tab at taxpayers' expense.
Seriously, call one of the many organizations here....United Way, Red Cross, Salvation Army just to name a few. They can give you referrals to help you out. Good luck !!
