It is simple, password protect the computerOnly let him use it for a certain amount of time.

My sister had the same problem, but with 2 kids, took it away for a month, then they had to earn play time on it.

Now they play games and run around and have other interests. The older one lost 15 pounds. They can play now 1 hour a day during week, 2 hours a day on weekend. They can also save game time...an hour of game time saved during the week due to homework of studying = 2 extra hours on weekend. An hour saved during week due to school activity or outdoor running around = 1 1/2 hours on weekend.

An hour saved can also be traded in for $1 cash.

I'm the same way, the only way I get off is if i want to play Xbox 360. But, my parents got me into skateboarding. If he doesn't like that, you might have to use threats as your last resort. Tell him no computer or video games until he does all his homework and at least 1 or 2 hours of studying every so often. Also limit his time, if he plays for 2-3 hours, tell him 1 hour of video games and try telling him to get outside and play sports with his friends. I was exactly the same way.

Well, for starters, he is a child and you/mom are the adults. It sounds like you need to take back control of who exactly is running the show! Take the power cord from the computer when you aren't using it so he can't use the computer. Maybe after you get things back in order, you could reward him with 20-30 minutes per day, but limited it to that!

This is a seriosu problem w/ alot of kids. You have to take control, take the game away or if it is a online game, buy a product called Net Nanny which can limit his time on the internet and shut it down after hes used the amout of time given.

Tell him to get off of the computer! He 9 for Christs sake, tell his mother to be a mother and get him off the damn computer, why is he running the show?
There is no excuse for failure here, he is 9 and cannot do a thing without his mothers approval and support. She can take away the computer, put parental locks on it, but she must do something to show him who is in charge here, because right now it sounds like he is.

If you really want him off, cold turkey. Put a password on the computer and be strict. Do not allow him to logon without your permission and supervision. Meanwhile, you need to find a meaningful replacement. Something that allows his use of hand-eye coordination and imagination. Maybe get him into art classes.

Why detach him, it's good for eye cordination, and he'll learn to be good with computers.2-3 hours is very little, i'm a grown man, and play 5-6 hours every day on top of working 10 hour days.

nothing wrong with that if you want him off the computer buy him a Nintendo DS or Xbox360, 2/3 hrs is really not that much time to sit and play games
