There's too much political correctness in the world
Just look at big brother just now (the indian up the road from me takes more abuse on a Friday night.)

Nothing has happened to it apart from the modern day phenomenon of shortening everything because we are all way too busy.
You can now say 'Sticks and stones' or simply 'Sticks' as in 'Sticks, dude, sticks.' It can even be seen nowadays as 'Stcks', this is popular with teenie texters although that can obviously be confused with stocks or stacks.

I was told to use it when I was a boy, but the bigger boys just threw stones at me. So I never bothered again.
