Freedom is defined by the ability to choose. The more choices you have the more freedom you have. The less choices you have the lesser amount of freedom.

The disadvantages of having too much freedom is the loss of control amongst the people. This is called anarchy. The more freedom you have the less government the less service that can be provided to a person. A person could have the freedom to walk around and kill people at will. People trade freedom for safety in society.

The advantages of having less freedom is safety and security. A government can provide more services, and more protection with less freedom. It would be easier to change laws that effect people with the less amount of a freedom a person has.

What a wonderful question that over time has been asked many many times.

Freedom is an advantage that many are without, lacking the right of choice due to religion or their government, ect.
it is something that so many people crave because when you have freedom, you have the right to choose so many things, from which religion you practice to more controversial things, like whether you feel that abortion is right for you. Freedom allows for individuality, though individuality is seriously in lacking in America.
Freedom however gives us that choice, as well as the right to say what we want to say, no matter what others may think.

The negatives of freedom are harder to say.
Freedom is a wonderful thing, as long as it is not in excess. Excessive amounts of freedom is a dangerous. Freedom has to balanced with government, control, and rules, otherwise the rules that keep us safe as a whole become endangered. Safety regulations, like those placed on the safety harnesses in amusement park rides, and vehicles, they could go without checking if freedom was not checked by the law.
Another con to freedom is that those whose views are prejudice, they are obnoxious, and pigheaded, they can express their views openly to the world, without any qualms,

That has been the most important question since time began, with, of course, a big bang...

"In the Hebrew Bible's Book of Genesis, chapters 2 and 3, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Hebrew: עֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע) (and occasionally translated as the Tree of Conscience) was the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden (2:9) from which God directly forbade Adam (and by extension Eve) to eat (2:17). The other tree in the middle of the garden was the Tree of Life. Genesis 2:16 states that God allowed them to eat of the fruit of any other tree in the garden, which would include the Tree of Life. When Eve, and then Adam, ate the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge (3:6), after being tempted by a serpent (3:1–5), they became aware of their nakedness (3:7), and were banished from the garden and forced to survive through agriculture "by the sweat of [their] face" (3:19-24)."

Disavantages: You have more choices. So do other people. And other people's freedoms can infringe on your own. For example, smoking. Also, the concept of free will can overwhelm some people.

I think you will get a lot of ideas from other on the advantages.

You can answer this one yourself...if you think about it. Take for example lines on the freeway and the speed limits; We are not REALLY "free" to drive anywhere we want, when we want, as fast as we want...are we. No, we have to stay within the lines, and drive a certain maximum speed. If there were NO lines, we would be free, but at what price ? What do you think would happen if we WERE free to drive any which way we wanted, as fast or as slow as we wanted? Chaos....death....and a giant demolition derby huh ?

Now equate this kind of thinking with everything else you think with regard to "freedom". Think along the lines of this;

Too many rules piss us off, and make us feel like we aren't "free". But, too FEW rules, might put us in danger and lead to anarchy, chaos, and confusion.

In a whole-country scenerio (like when we wanted our independence from England [assuming you are an American]), we were without the tyranny of the King, but now we had to provide ourselves with our OWN police, soldiers, sailors, taxes / tax collectors, industry, shipping / receiving, trade, etc.....all of which England had provide for us before our independence.

Hope this helps !

There are no disadvantages to freedom, unless you like being told what to think and what to do. In that case, you can join the Army.

Too much freedom means anarchy..
Too little freedom means tyranny..

Freedom is a fundamental right of human beings... as long as that freedom is not used to infringe upon the freedom of other human beings.

Pros: You have the right to choose your own destiny.

Cons: You have to be responsible for your choices.

Pro: Freedom allows a person to do what they want when they want. A person can speak their mind, buy what they want, do what they want, believe what they want, etc.

Con: Too much freedom can lead to more violence and such... people won't always agree with eachother and immoral actions like murder can occur. Too much freedom would create a chaotic world.
